Preschool

Our preschool hours are 8:15am-4:00pm Tuesday, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Playgroup

We run playgroup Tuesdays, on the days preschool is not in operation, from 10:00am-11:30am.

About our preschool

We listen to and respect the voice and rights of children to access a high quality early years learning program.

We strive to create an inclusive, responsive and emergent play-based curriculum that is flexible to the needs, interests and goals of our children.

As we do this we seek to celebrate each child’s uniqueness, embrace diversity, support positive relationships, wellbeing and cooperation.

We nurture curiosity, exploration and promote positive outcomes and success for all children in a happy, flexible and supportive environment.

We respect parents and carers as our children’s first teacher and seek to work in partnership with them.

Yesterday, May 26th, was National Sorry Day, which is a day that acknowledges the strength of our Stolen Generation survivors and a day for the whole nation to reflect on how each of us can play a role in the healing process for our people and nation. National Sorry Day was first celebrated in 1998, one year after the Bringing them Home report.

It is also the day before Reconciliation Week begins, which always starts on the 27th May, today, (which marks the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum for Constitutional reform where Australia voted to remove clauses of the Australian Constitution that discriminated against Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (Zenadth Kes) people) through to the 3rd June (which is Mabo Day and marks the anniversary of the day the High Court of Australia overturned the legal fiction of terra nullius, and recognising Australia’s First Nations people as the Traditional Owners and Custodians.

Each day the preschool children attend preschool we acknowledge the Kaurna people as the traditional owners and Custodians of the lands on which we play and learn. We are learning some words in Kaurna when we sing Niina Marni and Yaintya Yarta (or Yerta when we sing outside).

This week we will be continuing our conversations about what reconciliation is: “striving to come together” after our Aboriginal and Zenadth Kes people were treated horribly for many years by our government and many people for years causing horrific loss of culture, traditions, language and family connections and kinship. We look forward to revisiting and talking about the books Somebody’s Land by Adam Goodes and Respect written by Aunty Fay Muir and Sue Lawson, and illustrated by Lisa Kennedy this week.
